Dr. Wei Zhang, director of DM2L, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His work mainly focused on the resilience of civil infrastructures, such as bridges, buildings, power infrastructures, offshore structures, etc. Prior to this, Dr. Zhang was a senior specialist in Technip USA Inc. At Technip, he worked on design of offshore floating structures (Aasta Hansteen sparLucius spar, Heidelberg spar) under extreme wave and wind loads.  His previous study also includes fatigue damage assessment for coastal slender bridges,  progressive failure analysis of low rise buildings, Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) wind tunnel testing, computation mechanics and computation fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations, etc. He was involved in several wind tunnel experiments for mitigating wind induced vibrations of long span bridges (for example, Xihoumen Bridge). His earlier career also include working a bridge engineer and participated many short and long span bridge designs (for example, Runyang Yangtze Bridge).

Professional affiliations:
